A study abroad within an exchange programme is a fantastic opportunity to experience life as a student in another country when gaining credits for your degree at your home university. AKV|St.Joost offers three English-taught and one Dutch-taught one-term course (minor) as part of the Undergraduate programme (BA) in fine art and design. The Exchange programmes are intended for third-year (exchange) students in Fine Art, Graphic and Spatial Design, Photography, Film, Illustration and Animation from one of our partner institutions abroad and the Netherlands.
All exchange programmes relate to current social theme's, and involve interdisciplinary collaboration, entrepreneurship, theory, research and workshops. During the process you work on your own artistic and professional identity. You participate in projects with external parties and collaborate with Dutch and international students from multidisciplinary study backgrounds.
As an exchange student you are a current full-time student from one of our partner institutions, which can be an Erasmus partner or a non-Erasmus partner. If you are an Erasmus student, the credits earned will be recognised as part of your degree programme at your home university. You can study for one semester only on our campus in Breda or 's‑Hertogenbosch and do not graduate from AKV|St.Joost. You can apply for undergraduate (bachelor) study. We expect students to be fluent in English.
Exchange students can only participate in an exchange programme at AKV|St.Joost for a period of five months (one semester). The programmes are taught in English and start end of August and end in January. Exchange students do not have to pay tuition fees for AKV|St.Joost.
Enrol at Avans University of Applied Sciences before 1 May 2018 (Erasmus) or 1 June 2018 (non-Erasmus).
Do you want to explore and develop your creativity in an international multidisciplinary setting under the guidance of professional teaching staff? And are you currently a second or third year full-time BA undergraduate student from one of our partner institutions and fluent in English? If you have decided to pursue a study programme at Avans University of Applied Sciences, you will need to register for it. But first you need to ensure you are nominated by your home institution. From there Avans University will contact you about the next steps for application.
There will be a selection of the best applicants for the exchange programmes. If you are accepted you will receive a letter of acceptation, after which you are invited to officially enrol yourself through Avans University of Applied Sciences.
AKV|St.Joost - School of Fine Art and Design, is part of Avans University of Applied Sciences and offers undergraduate (BA) and graduate (MA) courses in fine art and design. There are approximately 1100 students enrolled on our full-time bachelor and master courses.
AKV|St.Joost is located in two cities: Breda and 's-Hertogenbosch. Both towns are situated in the south of the Netherlands, approximately 35 minutes away from each other. The schools have large open studios, workspaces, and numerous facilities for technical support, two libraries and media centres with a focus on contemporary art and design.
Our international BA minors and Master's programmes are in English; most of our staff and students can speak English as well. The students and teachers will do their best to help you to understand the assignments even though we expect that all exchange students can speak and understand English very well.
We do not offer accommodation or housing for exchange students. On the Avans website you will find information on temporary housing-possibilities. There are many options for arranging the accommodation but make sure that you start looking for a room as soon as possible.
When you are studying in the Netherlands make sure you are properly insured. There are certain rules concerning your healthcare insurance which you have to comply with. Also it is highly advisable to take out a liability insurance. Check the Avans website.
